British Precast Architectural and Structural
The group previously known as the Architectural and Structural Precast Association (ASPA) underwent a rebrand in 2017 to bring its brand identity in line with a number of other associations across the British Precast family. The new name and brand for the group is British Precast Architectural and Structural (BPAS), which will appear on communications and publications from this point forward.
As part of this exciting opportunity to increase brand awareness the association has committed to revamping its newsletter which will now be published quarterly. 2018 will also see BPAS get a new website to showcase the work and technical expertise of the association.
Across 2017 the group continued its PR campaign with a wide range of articles and features in industry magazines covering a range of projects. A further issue of the main Association newsletter ASPANEWS was published in early 2017. The association also took part in 2 recent concrete roadshows in Manchester and Glasgow. 2018 will see further participation in Concrete Centre roadshows to reach architects and specifiers and highlight the advantages and beauty of architectural and structural precast.
Members of BPAS are developing the final and most crucial chapters of the Code of Practice (CoP) for Safe Installation of Structural and Architectural Precast, which merges two earlier Codes of Practice originally developed over 15 years ago. The highly anticipated code is expected to be published this year.
The revision of the main architectural precast cladding standard BS 8297:2017 has also been published in late 2017.
As part of its commitment to sustainability the association has produced two Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) covering architectural cladding and structural precast products. The EPD for structural precast has been published and can be found on the British Precast website with the architectural cladding EPD to follow in early 2018. The EPDs results show an embodied carbon result for architectural cladding and structural precast which are both significantly lower than values currently quoted in the Green Guide to Specification or Bath University’s Inventory of Carbon and Energy. Further EPDs are expected in 2018.”
